Links I Loved For The Week Ending 12/10/2017 On Novels And Nonfiction

I can’t believe it’s only 2 weeks until Christmas and also only 13 days until I leave for my two-week vacation to see my family in Milan. I couldn’t be more excited about it because a) it’s real winter in Milan right now, with temperatures below 50 degrees (while here in LA it insists being over 80) and b) this gives me the perfect excuse to vegetate and read to my hearts content while I’m there.

What are all your plans for the Christmas vacation? I need to start selecting the books I want to read on my trip, though hopefully many of them will be in ebook version and won’t require weighing down my suitcase. In the meantime, I have about eight million more holiday parties to attend before the end of the work year. Definitely going out of 2017 with a bang!

Before we get on to this week’s links, I’m currently running a giveaway (through Wednesday December 13th) for two gorgeous snowflake-themed Book Buddles (one paperback and one hardcover sized). It’s INTERNATIONAL, so make sure to enter if you’re interested (link in this post).

I’ve had a very busy and VERY bookish week (hence why this post is coming out so much later than usual). It included not one but TWO really exciting author events – a conversation between Zadie Smith and Michael Chabon at UCLA on Thursday evening and a talk by Isabelle Allende at the Skirball Center on Friday evening.

I came away with 3 amazing signed books and such a better understanding of the three authors and their writing process. Look out for my posts on each event either this week or next! And if you’re a book blogger and are based in the LA area, you can find out about more similar author events like the ones I attended this week by joining my Los Angeles Book Bloggers group on Facebook.

I also wanted to announce that the winner of the Winter Reading Giveaway I hosted with Jackie at Death By Tsundoku was Rachel at Fortified By Books. Congratulations Rachel! I’ll be sending out your prize by the end of the week.

What is it about a long weekend that makes you build unrealistic dreams of getting much more done than there is time for? I definitely fell in that trap again this weekend, and though I did a lot, I didn’t even skim the surface of what I was hoping to accomplish. I’m really satisfied with having had time to relax and catch up with friends though.

Today is the last day of the Thanksgiving Readathon I’m hosting with Jackie at Death By Tsundoku and you’re still in time to join if you want to do a mini-readathon of your own! Make sure to also enter the Winter Reading Giveaway, which closes Tuesday at midnight. I didn’t realize that I would be starting my readathon with two 600-page books, so though I’ve read over 800 pages, I don’t have much to show for it in terms of book numbers. Ah well!

I’m looking forward to a particularly busy week! I’m attending not one but TWO bookish events this week, one to see Zadie Smith and Michael Chabon speak and the other to see Isabelle Allende. I’ve been sharing info on events like these on the Los Angeles Book Bloggers group I started on facebook, so if you’re based in LA and want to keep up with bookish events in the area, make sure to join!
