Links I Loved This Week – 04/01/2018

Links I Loved For The Week Ending 04/01/2018 On Novels And Nonfiction

Another pretty bookish week behind me. I successfully posted twice (twice!) on my blog this week in addition to Links I Loved (pat on the back). I finished thriller The Woman In The Window by A.J. Finn – which was very good – and spent Friday in my beach tent in front of the Pacific reading Ready Player One. I followed that up by watching the movie on Friday evening, so keep your eyes peeled for my Book To Screen comparison post.

This week I want to keep up a more regular posting schedule (fingers crossed) and also start ordering books I want to have on hand to get signed during the LA Times Book Fest. I’m also hoping to finish reading The Cadaver King And The Country Dentist by Radley Balko and Tucker Carrington, The More Of Less by Joshua Becker and the audiobook of The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende. Next on my list will be Book Of The Month pick from January 2018 Red Clocks by Leni Zumas.

But enough about my reading agenda. Without further ado, here are this week’s links…

December 2017 @BookOfTheMonth Reviews: The Poisonwood Bible, The English Wife And The Chalk Man

Book Of The Month December 2017 Reviews On Novels And Nonfiction

December 2017 was definitely among my most successful months to date in terms of my Book Of The Month picks. I gave each of the titles I selected 4 stars or more, including a 5 star rating to modern classic The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

Each of the titles fulfilled its promise and also the purpose for which I selected them, from the more literary tones of The Poisonwood Bible, to the lighter historical mystery of The English Wife, to the scary but not too scary thriller vibes of The Chalk Man.

I would recommend each of these books for different reasons, but I think that at least The English Wife and The Chalk Man would likely appeal to most readers, as they are broad and universal iterations of their respective genres. Read my full reviews below!

Links I Loved For The Week Ending 03/25/2018 On Novels And Nonfiction

These past two weeks have involved a lot of bookish events and happenings in my life, though not that much actual book blogging.

I bought my All Access Pass to the LA Times Book Festival that’s happening at the end of April and have already perused the full announced schedule to figure out which talks and signings I want to make sure to hit. I need to make a complete plan this week so I can buy any books I want to get signed in advance (and possibly also buy some kind of small rolling cart to bring with me so I don’t have to lug them all around the whole time in a bag) #bookwormproblems.

I also attended an author event last weekend featuring author Jade Chang discussing her debut novel The Wangs Vs. The World. It was a super interesting talk and I was able to get not one but two hardcover copies of the book signed, so I’ll be giving one away when I review the book and the event hopefully around the end of this week.

Guest Posting On Hungry Bookworm Site Today: 12 Memoirs For Nonfiction Newcomers

12 Great Memoirs For Nonfiction Newcomers

I’m really excited to have the opportunity to share a guest post today on the wonderful Megan’s blog The Hungry Bookworm. Since Megan primarily features fiction, and I tend to review a lot of nonfiction, I thought I would give some recommendations of nonfiction titles for readers who might not typically read nonfiction.

I decided to focus on memoirs because I find that they make great ‘gateway drugs’ for nonfiction newcomers. With their more personal and narrative style, they provide a much easier bridge into nonfiction for lovers of fictional stories. In fact, some of the stories within the memoirs I picked for this post are so incredible, they read like novels. Head over to The Hungry Bookworm to read my post!

Links I Loved This Week On Novels And Nonfiction

I’ve had an exceptionally productive weekend – don’t you just love the feeling of that? I’m all set up for this coming week and even stopped by Eataly this evening to pick up some real italian groceries for the week, including lots of my favorite – prosciutto cotto. I also have a great book event to look forward to on Friday with author Jade Chang of The Wangs Vs. The World, and hope to get an extra signed copy of her book to give away to one of my readers.

Since I skipped Links I Loved last week due to an impromptu Oscars get-together, you’ll find links for both this past week and the week before in today’s post. I’m hoping to pick up my posting frequency on my own blog asap, and this week I’ll be featuring a guest post from Megan at The Hungry Bookworm on Thursday (more details on that below).

Links I Loved This Week On Novels And Nonfiction

almost had Links I Loved up on Sunday as it’s supposed to be this week, but then I ended up having a wonderful relaxing day with friends buying scented candles and having brunch at a trendy place in the Arts District here in LA instead. I think that’s a fair trade.

I’m counting my small victories along the way, like the fact I posted two ARC reviews over the past two weeks and I’ve been absolutely loving my latest Book Of The Month read – The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver – so even if I’m not meeting all my blogging goals right on target at the moment, I’m enjoying my reading life regardless.

And I have all of your amazing posts to feed my review hunger of course! Here are this week’s links…
