Links I Loved This Week On Novels And Nonfiction

  • This week’s Top Five Wednesday feature instead was a look forward – Books You Finally Want To Read In 2017. Bloggers were able to list the stragglers among books they’ve always meant to read but haven’t gotten around to so far. I liked the lists on Hopewell’s Public Library Of Life and Lois Reads Books the best.
  • The two individual book reviews that stood out to me the most this week and that made me seriously consider reading the books they featured were the review of The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer on Jo’s Book Blog (an adult thriller from the author of the Twilight series) and the review of The Witches Of New York by Ami McKay on The Misstery.

  • I’m really excited to finally start reading Elena Ferrante‘s first two Neopolitan series novels this weekend, and I found this New York Times article about their success to date very interesting. Who knew they had already sold 5.5 million copies worldwide! As an Italian, I have to be proud!
  • Book Riot published their list of the Best Books Of 2016 and I was surprised to see that though I recognized many of the titles, there were an equal number that I hadn’t heard of before, like If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo and In The Country We Love by Diane Guerrero. They also included Tana French’s The Trespasser to their list, to which I strongly disagree, so now I’m left to second-guess all their picks.

  • On Thursday I posted a review of memoir The Year Of Living Danishly by Helen Russell. It was a laugh-out-loud and informative look at what makes Denmark the happiest country in the world, as well as just a great memoir about the changes that Russell experienced in her own life by moving to a different country.
  • For next week I’m planning a Fall 2016 Wrap-Up post on Monday (a little early since Fall isn’t technically over till December 20th) and the first installment of a two-part series on Elena Ferrante’s Neopolitan Novels, reviewing the first two books – My Brilliant Friend and Story Of A New Name.

Thanks for the mention! Also liked your review of The Mothers. I was on the fence about reading The Mothers this month but I’m going to give it a go.
