- It was the week to celebrate upcoming October 2016 releases. In addition to my own list, several other sites and blogs posted their own, including The Millions, Julia at Vivacious Reads, Harper’s Bazaar, Book Browse, What’s Better Than Books and Lindsay’s Library.
- In honor of October and Halloween, many book blogs posted scary book TBR lists. Here are a few I found interesting: Lipsyy Lost & Found, Wonderless Reviews (who is hosting a Halloween Read-A-Thon), Keeper Of Pages, Hanging With Amanda, and Inkyspells.
- Five new Book Of The Month selections were revealed on October 1st. My pick for the month was The Wonder by Emma Donoghue and I also added two previous Book Of The Month selections (Enchanted Islands by Allison Amend and The Witches: Suspicion, Betrayal and Hysteria in 1962 Salem by Stacy Schiff) to my order. Look out for reviews towards the end of the October.
- Kate at Parchment Girl‘s review of The Couple Next Door made me want to order it as part of a future Book Of The Month package or maybe even buy it before then. It sounds really thrilling.
- I have two of Elena Ferrante’s books on my TBR list for the Fall and I found this article about the recent gossip on the author’s true identity (she has chosen to use a pen name thus far) very interesting.
- Naz at Read Diverse Books continues to produce amazing content for Latinx Heritage Month. The themed posts he published this week include a guest review of Signs Preceding The End Of The World By Yuri Herrera and a guest post by author Désirée Zamorano, who wrote a novel called The Amado Women that I’m now very intrigued to read.
- This article from the New York Times on This Fall’s Big Book Awards is a great resource for new picks to add to your TBR list. I’m going to add News Of The World by Paulette Jiles, Miss Jane by Brad Watson, Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson and The Association Of Small Bombs by Karan Mahajan to mine.
- It was reading Modern Mrs. Darcy‘s blog that inspired me to start a book blog of my own. This week she published a very interesting post about The Perks Of Reading Together which is a springboard to her announcement that she’s starting an online book club for her blog on October 12th. I’ll definitely be participating!
- On Monday I published a post on the October 2016 Book Releases I’m looking forward to. It included 7 nonfiction and 7 fiction titles, including Mike Massimino’s Spaceman and Tana French’s The Trespasser.
- On Wednesday I posted a review of The City Of Palaces by Michael Nava, linking it up to Naz’s Read Diverse Books blog for Latinx Heritage Month. I really loved the novel – it was beautifully written and touched on so many different significant themes like the importance of democracy and the scourge of racial discrimination.
- I’ll be posting two new book reviews in the coming week, one for Gayle Foreman’s Leave Me on Sunday and one for Dinah Jefferies The Tea Planter’s Wife on Wednesday. I’m halfway through the latter and I’m really loving it.
- The other post I have planned for this coming week (on Tuesday) is something a little different – an Author Spotlight to share my favorite Terry Pratchett books. His novels are a little outside the norm of what I typically read but I’ve grown up reading them and I love the entire Discworld series.

Of course! I’m planning a small informal readathon myself for Halloween but a lot of the titles were already features on my Fall 2016 TBR list so I decided not to create a post for it. I’ll do one with the reviews 🙂

Yeah I just read it – I totally agree with you. The book really made me feel like I was in Ceylon – it was very vivid!

I look forward to your review of Wonder! I’d like to read more of Emma Donoghue’s novels. My BOTM choice was The Mothers and I hope it gets here soon. 😦
Thanks for linking to my blog. ❤
